How do I deal with the hurt?

Disappointment.  Despair.  Unfulfilled dreams.  Shattered hope.  Loss of loved one.  Emptiness.  Loneliness.  PAIN.  All of these cause tremendous hurt in our lives.  It is impossible to live a life without hurt—it is unavoidable.  So how are we ever to deal with this hurt?  Very simply, knowing Jesus Christ.  It sounds like it won’t work, or that is another useless religious answer, right?

Since pain is inevitable, the difference is how we deal with it.  We have two options:

One-sink deeper into despair as we attempt to run away from the hurt, becoming angry and bitter, calloused, building walls so we wont’ ever have to feel pain again.  The problem is it doesn’t work!  We still feel the pain, even more intensely as the days pass.

Two-bring the hurt to Christ and ask for HIM—ask for His love, His healing, His strength to carry on and His courage to love again.  Basically, seek Him in a relationship like you would seek your best friend or loved one for advice and encouragement.

When we come to Christ as we are regardless of our burdens and hurts, an amazing thing happens.  He answers!  He doesn’t wave a magic wand and all hurt immediately vanishes. No, we must still experience the pain.  But when He answers, He restores was has been lost, heals what has been destroyed and gives the courage and grace to be able to come back stronger.  Most of all, He gives HOPE-Hope where there has never been hope before!  Imagine a life with hope again, with a twinge of expectation and excitement for what God has in store for you.  Imagine the ability to endure in spite of grave anguish and have the faith to believe God still loves you and has the best for you.  It is as simple as approaching Christ, and asking Him to help you.  Do we dare believe?  You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain!

Lord,

I crawled across the barrenness to You,

With my empty cup,

Uncertain but asking any

Small drop of refreshment.

If only I had known You better,

I’d have come running

With a bucket!
