When trying to determine what God's will is for our lives, the tendency is to seek His will only in the large matters or crises of life. I encourage you to seek and obey the will of God in the every day, common affairs and duties of life.
Many times, we only ask God for discernment in matters that are beyond us; matters beyond our understanding and wisdom. Although this is important, we are missing a vital piece of the puzzle. The small, every day tasks are an opportunity to know and obey the will of God and draw closer to Him through that obedience.
We are eagerly seeking the answers to these monumental questions. We can easily spend most of our lives trying to figure it out - that special ministry or special career that is more than a job. For most, our seeking comes up empty and we start believing perhaps God doesn't have any special purpose for us after all. But God DOES have a special purpose for each one of us. The answer is almost too simple.
